IMO has developed the MODU Code and its subsequent amendments, to provide an international standard for mobile offshore drilling units of new construction that will facilitate the international movement and operation of these units and ensure a level of safety for these units and their crew and personnel equivalent to that required by the SOLAS Convention, as amended, and the Load Lines Convention with its Protocol; of 1998.
Throughout the development of the Code, it was acknowledged that it must be based on sound design and engineering principles as well as operational experience and thus the objective of the Code for the Construction and Equipment of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units, 2009 is to recommend design criteria, construction standards, and other safety measures for mobile offshore drilling units aiming to minimize risk to such units, their personnel on board, and the marine environment.
INSB Class performs relevant survey and certification services for assets in accordance with the applicable requirements of the MODU Code and its amendments, and issues the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit Safety certificate upon satisfactory completion.
