IMO MSC.1-Circ.1578 Guidelines on safety during abandon ship drills using lifeboats
IMO re-issued a circular MSC.1/Circ.1578 on Guidelines on safety during abandon ship drills using lifeboats on 14 Jul 2021, with the corrected reference to SOLAS regulation III/19.3.4.4 in footnote 4, as attached. This circular supersedes annex 2 to MSC.1/Circ.1206/Rev.1.

The fourth edition of the industry cyber risk management guidelines, Guidelines on Cyber Security Onboard Ships is now available and lays the foundation for further improvements and refinement of companies’ cyber security risk assessments.
Cyber Risk Management
The present circular/guidance has been development based on the “The Guidelines on Cyber Security Onboard Ships”, version 3.0, BIMCO, CLIA, ICS, INTERCARGO, INTERMANAGER, INTERTANKO, OCIMF, WSC and IUMI, 2018.
Emergency Training and Drills
It is a legal requirement that every crew member who is assigned to emergency duties is familiar with those duties before the ship sails. This requirement may also be found in the STCW Convention and in the requirements of the ISM code.
ISM Cyber Security: Be prepared
The IMO has identified cyber security as a risk to be addressed in safety management systems and the handling of the risks are to be verified in audits from 1 January 2021 onwards.
