BMP WA New publication (5th)
Industry organisations, supported by government and military organisations, have worked together to produce a new publication that will help mariners detect, deter and delay external threats to their safety. Best Management Practices to Enhance Maritime Security for Vessels & Mariners Operating Off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea (BMP WA) consolidates and enhances existing guidance for specific threats in this region.

Please be informed of the new Merchant Marine Circular MMC-359: Guidance for the implementation and certification of the ISPS as issued by Republic of Panama Flag, which provides information and guidance related to the application and implementation of the ISPS Code, which is self explanatory.
New BMP and other security updates
BMP5 is the fifth edition of the Best Management Practices (BMP), which are jointly produced by shipping organisations, with the support of military organisations, to help ship operators, Masters and mariners prepare for external threats to safety. This edition helps mariners detect, deter and delay threats in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. The guidance is written primarily for oil tankers and gas carriers, but much of the advice will be appropriate to other types of ship. It complements guidance on piracy in the latest IMO MSC circulars, but also addresses other threats specific to the region.

ISPS preparation for PSC Inspection
PSC deficiencies related to security represent some 3% to 5% of the deficiencies found on SOLAS ships. Ships with security related deficiencies are almost invariably found to have safety or other deficiencies.
